Allen and I have talked a bit recently about how to keep the Gospel at the center of what we do – not just on the mission field in the future, but HERE and NOW. Do you ever think about that, too?
The Gospel is this: Jesus Christ is the Son of God, simultaneously fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin and lived a sinless life, despite being tempted in all ways. Out of immense love and obedience to the Father, Jesus gave His life on a cross. His shed blood paid the penalty for our sins. Three days after His painful death, Jesus rose to life again. This proved His victory over sin and death. He is now seated at the right hand of God the Father in Heaven.
The Gospel changes everything.
Belief in the Gospel saves our souls and knits us into the family of God. The Gospel transforms minds and hearts and lives. The Gospel is the lasting and unchanging Truth in a chaotic world.
So, with all this in the back of my mind, when I found the article “How to Keep the Gospel at the Center of Missions,” I was encouraged. It’s exactly what Allen and I have been talking about!
The crux of the matter is this: Conversion is God’s work. Our job is to remain unashamed of the Gospel and preach it (not just live it, but actually SPEAK it). As we do this and reflect on the Gospel regularly, we will have renewed zeal.
Without the Gospel, we’re just a random family moving to Africa for the fun of it. But armed with the Truth of the Gospel, we are a family on mission for God. And nothing is better than that.
