Tuesday Talk: He’s Here!

Hudson, sickness, mom-guilt, and more.

Last Friday night, January 25, at 10:55pm, sweet Hudson James joined our family after 30 hours of back labor and just 7 intense minutes of pushing!

We are thrilled beyond belief that he is here, but shortly after birth, a couple situations arose for which we would appreciate prayer.

For one thing, Hudson cried the entire first hour after being born, out of what appeared to be physical pain. He was not interested in rooting or nursing at all, which has made breastfeeding more of a challenge. Then, when my midwives were examining him, they noticed that his sacrum appeared out of place and that Hudson was holding his head really stiffly in an awkward position.

They put us in touch with a chiropractor who specializes in infant and child care and we were able to meet with him Saturday evening. He performed some scans on our precious boy, adjusted him in a couple places, and we went back yesterday to discuss his plan of care. It seems that spots in Hudson’s lower back and neck are out of alignment and under pretty intense stress. Left untreated, this could cause some health concerns (such as colic, ear infections, and GI issues) later in life.

We are so thankful for how the midwives noticed this, referred us to the chiropractor, and how Hudson was able to be seen less than 24 hours after birth. Please join us in praying for quick and thorough healing!

Meanwhile, this girl may appear totally happy and healthy… but she is still sick with RSV (and still contagious!). Hudson and I have hidden out in our bedroom, away from everyone else. But the sore throat/cough/runny nose crud is REAL in our house and most of us are suffering from some degree of it. Please pray specifically that Hudson does not get sick and that the rest of us get well soon!

And of course, as he does, Satan is laying on the mom-guilt pretty thick right now. Did I do something to cause Hudson’s misalignment? Why can’t I take care of my sick girls right now? That laundry pile is huge! Did my kids eat any vegetables today? Why can’t I help Hudson more? What car are we going to buy to replace Allen’s truck? Please pray that I will trust the Lord and His promises rather than the lies that seem to infiltrate sometimes.

Psalm 84:5-7 has encouraged me this week:

Blessed are those whose strength is in you,

    whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.

As they pass through the Valley of Baka,

    they make it a place of springs;

    the autumn rains also cover it with pools.

They go from strength to strength,

    till each appears before God in Zion.

Couple more things (and one more picture of Hudson because, duh): Our January newsletter will go out on Wednesday. We rescheduled our next partner get together for Friday, February 8th. And we are just so thankful for your love, support, and encouragement in our lives.

God is good.
