Friday Favorites

We are one week closer to fall! Is anyone else really dreaming about pumpkins and flannel and cozy socks? Just me?

Alaska’s summers are usually wrapping up by the beginning of August. We’ve had rain just about every day this week, leaves are starting to change, and there’s a new crispness in the air that wasn’t there a couple weeks ago.

I’m a fan.

Besides the impending fall, here are some other favorites from the week!

Saturday: We had a successful yard sale on Saturday (despite starting an hour late). We raised nearly $600 for our Outfit and Passage! We opted to keep the items that didn’t sell and plan another sale day for next summer. The signs we put out said “Moving to Africa Sale” and we had a lot of people inquire about our plans. It was exciting to get to share with those who asked. There was an old house phone left over from the sale and Ruth has been “calling Mimi and Papa” everyday since Saturday. That item may make it into our playroom rather than the next yard sale…

Sunday: We drove to Anchorage to take Clara’s one-year photos and some new family photos. The picture of both girls (top left) just cracks me up. Ruth kept intentionally falling off the little stool she was sitting on and Clara kept standing up to run away, so this was literally the best shot we got of the two of them… and of course, they’re both looking off into the distance contemplatively.

Monday: Allen took Oggie down to the lake in our neighborhood and threw a stick for her again. She was thrilled… until she decided she was done and left her stick in the middle of the lake. She swam right back to shore, ran to the truck, and was ready to come home. Can’t say I blame her. I’m sure the lake was cold!

Tuesday: Amanda and her girls came over Tuesday for dinner and to talk about life, Togo, etc. We had a great visit with them! Allen and I always love hearing about what’s going on in others’ lives and hearing Amanda talk about her heart for ED kids, foster care, missions, and serving others was so refreshing and encouraging.

Wednesday: Allen asked me, “What would you like to do tonight?” And I responded, “Eat a cookie in a mug with ice cream.” So we did… and we’re pretty much living the dream over here. Haha!

Thursday: I texted Allen during work and said, “We should sit on the front porch tonight.” This is something we never do, but it was so nice to sit out there with some mugs of tea, doing some Dr. Who mad libs, and just talking about everything going on in our lives. This whole intentionally-slowing-down thing is really nice.

Our partner dessert party is this Saturday at 6:30pm! If you’re local to the are and want to come, send us a message – we’d love to have you join us.

Have a great weekend, friends!
