“When you start to do the things that you truly love, it wouldn’t matter whether it is Monday or Friday; you would be so excited to wake up each morning to work on your passions.”
― Edmond Mbiaka
Happy Friday! We are in the midst of doing things we truly love. But let’s be real: some days and weeks are hard. And long. And exhausting. But even on those days, a spontaneous laugh from Clara or a hug from Ruthie right before she says, “Be right back, Mom!” make the heavy loads more bearable.
We had a HUGE week, ministry-wise:
We purchased our tickets to fly back east in July! This was a huge step in faith in believing all of our requirements will be met by our deadline. And praise the Lord for companion tickets (that saved us about $700!) and nice people from Alaska Airlines who help us get seats together on packed planes. (We’re also really looking forward to spending some time with family while we’re there. We’ve heard talks about going to the beach and Hershey Park, but we’re mostly excited to just hug some familiar necks and have a couple days with people we love.)
We know we reported on Tuesday morning that we were at 47% of our funding. Well guess what?! By the end of the day on Tuesday, we had increased to 49%. Isn’t that crazy?! Our KCT coach, Hannah, said this is very uncommon and she can see how it is confirmation of God’s calling on our lives.
We are slowly starting to gather items for Togo, such as plastic dishes, flip flops, hand soap, water bottles, etc. and are packing them away in those blue totes. We’ve had some people ask about how they can help meet some of our more tangible needs, so we are preparing a list/registry that can be shared with people who want to assist in that way. The challenge is trying to identify all of our needs for living in another country… and packing enough for at least 3 years (the length of our first term in Togo after language school)! Of course, those needs include 3 years’ worth of Christmas and birthday presents, Easter baskets, etc. for each member of our family. Insert wide-eyed emoji here.
On Sunday, we are sharing at University Baptist Church in Anchorage. Allen is preaching, which is exciting.
But full disclosure: we have seen Satan attacking us immensely this week and we need prayers and support this weekend. It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed and underprepared. So please join us in praying for holy bravery, strength like eagles, and just plain old rest.
Have a great weekend.
